Designs of Omission : America's Original Sin

Byron Noriyoshi Kunisawa, a Sansei (third-generation Japanese American) was born in the Internment Camp of Topaz, Utah, youngest of four siblings: two boys and two girls. Their mother, Shizue, was a single parent with sole responsibility of raising her four children.

He was the first in his family to go to college and graduated from California State University, San Francisco with a B.A. in Sociology, K-9 teaching credential, and a Masters in Educational Administration (M.E.A).

Kunisawa was an educator in the Palo Alto Unified School District and in the Cycle 7 Teacher Corps Project to develop teachers for low income communities. He was selected to a National Multicultural Drug Prevention Advisory Board for the National Institute on Drug Abuse (NIDA). He co-founded the NIDA Advisory Board and the San Francisco Multicultural Training Resource Center (MTRC) in 1985. MTRC was awarded the California State Multiultural Aids Prevention Center contract in 1986.

Kunisawa is an internationally recognized consultant and lecturer in the areas of Workforce Diversity, Organizational Development, Multiculturalism, and Systemic Change. His clientele included NASA, CIA, National Science Foundation, Teledyne-Ryan Aeronautical, Bell Communications Research, National ducation Association, NOAA, Department of the Treasury, Hewlett Packard, National Forestry Service, City of Vancouver, Canada, United States Football League (USFL), and Ministry of Multiculturalism, British Columbia, Canada.

His work was recognized and awarded by NASA Public Service Award and Medal in 1994. The International Diversity Speakers Association (IDSA) selected Kunisawa as the Outstanding Global Diversity Speaker for 2007 in Mexico City.

After retiring from public speaking, Kunisawa joined a special team of instructors and caregivers at Marin Ventures, a day program for Developmentally Disabled Adults in San Rafael, California, for nearly a decade.
